OPERATION
OPERATING COMPONENTS
The Retarder/Speed Control is a dual function
switch enabling the operator to select either
retardation mode or speed control mode.
Engaging the brake retarder helps to control the
speed of the truck especially when descending. It
also is a factor in reducing fuel consumption and
minimising brake wear. Bell recommends maximum
retardation to suit site conditions.
Retarder Mode
To activate the retarder, press the switch on the UP
arrow and to decrease the amount of retardation,
push the DOWN arrow.
• No LED ON = Retarder OFF 15% retardation
• 1 LED ON = 25% Retardation
• 2 LEDs ON = 35% Retardation
• 3 LEDs ON = 45% Retardation
• 4 LEDs ON = 60% Retardation
• 5 LEDs ON = 75% Retardation
• 6 LEDs ON = 100% Retardation
NOTE
The percentage of retardation will be
displayed for 3 seconds on the CDU. LED
light must be ON, on the CDU when the
retarders (Engine and Brake) are active.
The retarder is applied automatically when the
switch is operated but will only be activated when
the accelerator is fully released.

Speed Control Mode

Speed control allows the operator to set the
maximum speed for the machine. The machine will
not go above the set speed even if the accelerator
is depressed to full throttle. The operator also does
not need to worry about foot movement caused by
bumpy roads.
The speed control function manages engine speed
and retarder automatically. Speed control limits are
set on the CDU, using the switches. Any value
below the vehicle's top speed can be selected.
By holding the retarder UP or DOWN switch in, you
will enter the Speed Control 1 or Speed Control 2
function respectively.
If Speed Control 1 is active the three LEDs above
the down switch will flash and if Speed Control 2 is
active the three LEDs above the up switch will flash.
While in Speed Control Mode you can increase or
decrease the required speed that you want the
system to limit the machine to, by pressing the up
or down buttons respectively.
If Speed Control 1 is active then you can switch to
Speed Control 2 by holding in the up switch.
If Speed Control 2 is active then you can switch to
Speed Control 1 by holding in the down switch.
To exit Speed Control Mode (to go back to normal
Retarder Control Mode) you must hold in the switch
below the three LEDs which are flashing.
Windscreen Washer/Wiper Switch
The windscreen washer/wiper switch is a dual
function switch which enables the operator to use
both the windscreen wash and/or wiper functions.
If the washer/wiper switch is held in for more than
0.5 seconds then the washer pump will be activated
and the wiper will wipe. When the switch is released
the wiper will wipe one last time.
If the washer/wiper switch is pressed for less than
0.5 seconds then the wiper will wipe once only and
the washer/wiper button LED's will flash for 5
seconds after this initial wipe has moved to the
parked position.
If the washer/wiper switch is pressed for less than
0.5 seconds while the washer/wiper button LEDs
are flashing then the wiper function will move to
