Rack Installation Requirements
For 19-inch Racks (2000mm) with UNIX/Industry Standard Server Connections
This section explains how the frontend cables should be used and how many frontend cables are required
according to the cable length.
Caution
This section describes the connection application when a rack for an ETERNUS DX is used.
The required cables may differ depending on the racks that are used.
The installation location for each enclosure differs depending on the number of controller enclosures, and the
number of drive enclosures on a single node. The required cable length changes since the distance between the
frontend enclosure and the controller enclosure is proportional to the number of controller enclosures, and the
number of drive enclosures on a single node.
In this section, the frontend enclosure is referred to as "FE", the controller enclosure is referred to as "CE", the
drive enclosure (2U) is referred to as "DE", and the high-density drive enclosure (4U) is referred to as "HD-DE".

Usage
The cable used to connect with CE#0 is not provided with the base unit.
Make sure to order a 1.1m or 3m frontend cable for connections between
the FE and CE#0.
Used for connections between the FE and the CEs that are installed in the
same rack when following the standard installation rules.
Cannot be used for connection with CE#4 or later. (Make sure to use the
10m or longer cable.)
Used for connections between the racks when following the standard
installation rules.
Cannot be used for connection with CE#4 or later. (Make sure to use the
10m or longer cable.)
Used for connections between the FE and CE#4 to CE#B or between the FE
and CE#1 to CE#3 in two or more racks when following the standard
installation rules.
Used when the connection length is more than 10m.
