1. ETERNUS DX Installation Package Size Package Size The ETERNUS DX is shipped in cardboard boxes or in a rack. These boxes may not fit through some doorways or elevators. To make sure that the ETERNUS DX can be moved to the installation site, carefully check the transport route information.
This section explains the installation areas and the service areas that are required for an ETERNUS DX that is installed in a Fujitsu 19-inch rack. Secure a service area of 850mm or more in front of and behind the ETERNUS DX.
When placing 19-inch racks with standard door and other 19-inch racks side by side, align the front frame of those racks to secure this area. For details, refer to Figure Figure 12 Example of Fujitsu 19-inch Racks Placed Side by Side 19-inch rack 19-inch rack (for GS21 3600/3400)

1. ETERNUS DX Installation Installation Environment Installation Environment Sufficient consideration of the installation environment should be taken to ensure proper use of the ETERNUS DX. Using the ETERNUS DX in an environment that does not satisfy the installation environment requirements may cause a failure to occur with the ETERNUS DX.
1. ETERNUS DX Installation Installation Environment Installation Methods Perform one of the following rack installation methods to ensure the safe use of an ETERNUS DX that is • installed in a rack: To secure a rack, use a rack without stabilizers and secure it to the building with the leveling feet. If a rack is not to be secured, make sure to use a rack with stabilizers and use these stabilizers to prevent the rack from toppling over.
Conditions for Using Mobile Phones Stay at least 1.0m away from the storage system (*1) when using a mobile phone. Fujitsu recommends keeping mobile phones switched off near the storage system. *1: Keep the storage system covers and rack doors closed.

1. ETERNUS DX Installation Outlet/Socket Specifications Required Number of Outlets/Sockets The number of power outlets/sockets required to install the ETERNUS DX depends on the number of enclosures and power distribution units. It is recommended that the power cords of the enclosures are connected to the power distribution units that are installed in the same rack.
1. ETERNUS DX Installation Outlet/Socket Specifications ■ Breaking Characteristics Caution The breaking characteristics (*1) of the distribution board circuit protectors must be the long-time delay type and must be equivalent to or slower than the D (IEC/EN60898-1) shown in Figure If the distribution board's circuit protectors have a breaking characteristic that is faster than D, the breaker may trip when a power supply unit in the storage system fails.

2. Rack Installation Specifications Rack Installation Requirements Frontend Cable Connection In the ETERNUS DX8900 S4, a frontend enclosure is included as a basic configuration. Connections between this frontend enclosure and controller enclosures are called frontend cable connections. In frontend cable connections, two types of cables connect between the single frontend enclosure and all controller enclosures.
2. Rack Installation Specifications Rack Installation Requirements For 19-inch Racks (2000mm) with UNIX/Industry Standard Server Connections This section explains how the frontend cables should be used and how many frontend cables are required according to the cable length. 2. Rack Installation Specifications Rack Installation Requirements Backend Cable Connection The connection between the controller enclosure and the drive enclosure is called a back-end connection. In the ETERNUS DX, controller enclosures are connected to drive enclosures with backend cables (Mini SAS HD). For reverse cabling, the connection destination for controller 1 (CM#1) must be the last drive enclosure.
The following figure shows an example of when one controller enclosure and one drive enclosure (2U) are installed in a rack. For the ETERNUS DX8100 S4, the required length of cable is the same for Controller 0 (CM#0) and Controller 1 (CM#1) so the cables that are supplied as standard can be use for connections.
2. Rack Installation Specifications Rack Installation Requirements ■ Connection Example (ETERNUS DX8900 S4) ● Installing in the Same Rack This section describes a connection configuration where enclosures on a single node are installed in the same rack. The following figure shows an example of when one drive enclosure (2U) is installed for each controller enclosure.
