184 Driving and parking
The lane markings change quickly, e.g. lanes

branch off, cross one another or merge.
The carriageway is very narrow and winding.

Activating/deactivating Lane Keeping Assist
Press the Ç button.

If the indicator lamp in the button is lit, Lane
Keeping Assist is activated. If all conditions
have been satisfied, there may be a warning.
If Lane Keeping Assist is activated and you
are driving at speeds above 60 km/h and
lane markings are detected, the lines in the
assistance display menu of the on-board com‐
puter are shown in green. Lane Keeping
Assist is ready for use.
When the system switches over, the
Keeping Assist on
or
message is shown briefly in the multifunction
display.

Standard

In the
Standard
setting, no warning vibration
occurs in the following situations:
you operate the turn signal in the correspond‐
R
ing direction. In this event, the warnings are
suppressed for a certain period of time.
a driving safety system, such as ABS, BAS or
R
®
ESP
, intervenes or performs a control
action.
Lane
Lane Keeping Assist off
or
Adaptive
setting.
In the
Adaptive
setting, there will also be no
warning vibration in the following situations:
you accelerate hard, e.g. kickdown.
R
you brake hard.
R
you steer actively, e.g. swerve to avoid an
R
obstacle or change lane quickly.
you cut the corner on a sharp bend.
R
To ensure that you are warned only when neces‐
sary and in good time if you cross the lane mark‐
ing, the system detects certain conditions and
warns you accordingly.
The warning vibration occurs earlier under the
following conditions:
you approach the outer lane marking on a
R
bend.
the road has very wide lanes, e.g. a motor‐
R
way.
the system detects solid lane markings.
R
The warning vibration occurs later under the fol‐
lowing conditions:
you are driving on a road with narrow lanes.
R
you cut the corner on a bend.
R

& WARNING Risk of accident and injury if
the tongue weight is exceeded
The carrier system may detach from the vehi‐
cle, thereby endangering other road users.
Always comply with the permissible

tongue weight when using a carrier.
& WARNING The vehicle/trailer combina‐
tion may begin swerving due to increased
speed
You could lose control of the vehicle/trailer
combination.
The vehicle/trailer combination may even
overturn.
On no account should you attempt to
#
straighten up the vehicle/trailer combi‐
nation by increasing the speed.
Reduce your speed and do not counter‐
#
steer.
If necessary, apply the brakes.
