Open the bonnet (

Unscrew and remove the cap 1.

Top up engine oil.

Fit the cap

on the filler opening and

tighten.
When doing so, make sure that the cap
engages correctly.
If present, check the oil level using the oil dip‐

stick (
page 287).

Close the bonnet.

In the case of vehicles without an oil dipstick,
#
check the oil level with the on-board com‐
puter after the next journey (
It is necessary to run the engine for an extended
period after each oil top up to correctly detect
the oil level. Fill level changes during oil top ups
may not be immediately visible. Depending on the
driving profile, the new oil level can only be dis‐
played after a driving time of up to 60.
If necessary, only top up the quantity of oil shown
in the instrument cluster display and check the
oil level again after the next journey.
Checking/topping up the coolant

If antifreeze comes into contact with hot com‐
ponent parts in the engine compartment, it

Allow the engine to cool down before

you top up the antifreeze.
Make sure that no antifreeze spills out

Thoroughly clean the antifreeze from

component parts before starting the
vehicle.

If you open the cap, you could be scalded.
Let the motor cool down before opening

the cap.
When opening the cap, wear protective

gloves and safety glasses.
Open the cap slowly to release pres‐

sure.
Only check the coolant level and/or fill the cool‐
ant if the vehicle is stationary, on a level surface
and the engine has cooled down. The coolant
temperature must be below 50°C.
& WARNING Risk of burns from hot com‐
ponent parts in the engine compartment
Certain component parts in the engine com‐
partment can be very hot, e.g. the engine, the
cooler and parts of the exhaust system.
