  • Page 5 Before initial use, the lift unit must be charged for 5 hours. Charge the batteries regularly. Handicare recommends the lift be left on charge when not in operation, and at the end of each day, which will maximize the life cycle of the batteries.
  • Page 6 (the Emergency Down also continues to operate) and move the lift to a location where it can be charged. The lift may be used after one hour of charging from low battery; however, Handicare • recommends overnight charging or minimum of 5 hours.

Mount the Hand Control While the lift is not in-use, the hand control can be mounted on to the top of the lift using the angled slider.

    If the lift batteries require charging, the indicator on the membrane lights orange, a beep audible alarm sounds when the button is pressed, and the Hand Control displays the message [Low Battery]. If the lift batteries are discharged to 25% of capacity, the Hand Control displays the message [Low Battery] and the lift continues to function until the battery status reaches 10-15%.

    Lift Features Pivoting Hooks The AP-450 Ceiling lift has hooks that can be turned upwards for storage and transport. The hooks must always be in the “DOWN” position when performing a lift. Tilt Control The AP-450 is equipped with a tilt sensor that activates once the lift tilts past a certain angle, restricting upward movement until the lift is adjusted.

  • Page 12 Ensure that the lift hooks have no cuts, dents, or sharp edges that may come in contact with the straps of the sling and cause damage to them. Report any concerns to your Handicare dealer or your local Handicare business development manager.
  • Page 13 Traversing Beam Transfer If you are using a Handicare X-Y system with a traversing beam, be sure you understand the traversing beam and how it works in transferring an individual. As shown in Figure 10, the X-Y system features two parallel support tracks with one traversing beam mounted across them.

Lower the lift to a comfortable height so you can grab it easily. Grab hold of the lift and move it and traversing beam along the track by gently pushing the lift or the individual in the sling.

    Emergency Lowering The Emergency Lowering System can be used to lower the lift should the Down button on the hand control and lift membrane fail. When pressed, an audible alarm will sound until the Emergency Down button is released. When pressed, the Emergency Down Button bipasses all other control circuitry of the lift to immediately lower an individual safely.
