4. Now open the bonnet and
locate the positive (+) and
negative (-) battery terminals.
CAUTION
Fans or other moving engine
parts can injure you badly. Keep
your hands away from moving
parts once the engine is
running.
Your vehicle has a remote neg-
ative (-) battery terminal.
The remote negative (-) termi-
nal (marked GND) is located
near the front of the engine
compartment.
See the engine compartment
diagram in Section 4 to locate
the remote terminal.

Always use the remote nega-
tive earth location instead of
the terminal on your vehicle's
battery.
To access your vehicle's posi-
tive terminal, you will need to
open the cover.
5. Check that the jumper leads
don't have any loose or miss-
ing insulation. If they do, you
could get a shock and the
vehicles could be damaged.
Do not connect positive (+) to
negative (-) or you will get a
short that would damage the
battery and possibly other
parts.
Do not connect the negative
(-) lead to the negative (-)
terminal on the flat battery
because this can cause sparks.

6. Connect the positive (+) (red)
lead to the positive (+) termi-
nal on the flat battery. Use the
remote positive (+) terminal if
the vehicle has one.
7. Don't let the other end touch
metal, then connect it to the
positive (+) terminal of the
good battery.
Use the remote positive (+) ter-
minal if the vehicle has one.
