Tyre Replacement

The rubber in your vehicle's tyres
degrades over time, even if the
tyres are not used. Various factors
affect how quickly rubber
degrades. Driving speeds, road
conditions, temperatures, vehicle
loading, and inflation pressure
maintenance all affect how the
tyres on your vehicle age.
If maintained properly according
to the maintenance schedule, the
tyres on your vehicle will most like-
ly require replacement before they
become degraded due to age.
A
Your tyres have tread wear indica-
tors
. They tell you when a tyre
has 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) or less of
tread left.
If you can see the tread wear indi-
cators at three places around the
tyre, as in this picture, you need a
new tyre. Here are other things
that mean you need to get a new
tyre:
• The tread or side wall is
cracked, cut or snagged deep
enough to show cord or fabric.
• The tyre has a bump, bulge or
split.
Section 4
Note: Some commercial truck
tyres may not have tread wear
indicators.
The tyre information label says
what size tyres you need.
To determine the location of your
vehicle's tyre information label,
see "Vehicle Loading" in Section 3.
It is recommended that you
replace all four tyres at the same
time.
Replacing fewer than four tyres at
one time can affect the braking
and handling performance of your
vehicle.
When replacing tyres, you should
use the same size, load range and
construction type as the original
tyres on the vehicle.
