11.1.8 Boost Check
Process:

He iCRC check
Note: Only valid with ASpect MS version 4.xx or later in Elite model only. The voltage
range is limited between 0-10 V. The test below was realized until 22 V with R&D
instrument.
Why we need BOOST (Skimmer bias) technology: iCRC skimmer cone isolated from
ground. The DC voltage 0 to +22V can be applied to the cone.
Positive voltage provides additional kinetic energy (E
energy is needed during the iCRC operation, when He and H
collisional scattering.
The benefits of boost: Sensitivity in iCRC mode can be improved x100 times.
Initial PQMS tunings to the best sensitivity must be done with Skimmer bias (BOOST)
at 0V and Quadrupole pole bias at 0V.
1. Achieve maximum tune specification with initial tuning by using 1ppb TS,
2. Modify system setup page as per Fig.11-3 below.
3. Make sure 78ArAr is between 150,000-270,000c/s.
4. Skimmer bias at 0V.
5. Apply H
gas 200ml/min. Witness significant loss of sensitivity as per Figure 11-3,

and stable signal.
6. Apply +2, +4, +6, +8, +10V (max) in steps as per Figure 11-3. Witness the signal
recovery.
7. Apply step-by-step backwards +10, +8, +6, +4, +2, 0V. Witness the loss of the
signal to levels similar to step 6).
8. Apply 0ml/min H
flow. Witness the signal the same as during max tune.
