O
PERATION
Note
Initial startup may cause a shutdown
condition (because of low pressure)
until the system is purged. The elec-
tronics allow for a restart prior to shut-
down. When the ULTROpure senses a
low pressure situation, it will wait 30
seconds---, then attempt a restart. It
will shut down if the unit senses low
pressure the second time. Should a
shutdown condition occur while you
are performing this startup, shut the
ULTROpure off and restart. If the shut-
down condition continues after the
system has been purged 3 to 4 times,
check to be sure that there is ade-
quate feedwater pressure at the
ULTROpure feedwater inlet (Refer to
Technical Characteristics). If adequate
pressure is available, close the reject
valve 1/2 turn and restart the unit.

Note
Check to be sure that water is flowing
from both the reject and product lines.
This can be accomplished by observ-
ing the flow meters. If no water is com-
ing out of the reject line, open the
reject valve until water flows out.
Product water generally takes a few
minutes after startup to completely fill
the product line.
Note
The flow meter is read at the indented
portion of the flow indicator. Before
taking the following flow rate readings,
be sure that the membrane pressure
gauge is reading 200 psig. THIS IS
IMPORTANT.
20
H.
Allow the ULTROpure to operate for at least 30
minutes to purge air from the membrane.
I.
After the 30-minute purge, turn the recycle valve
until the membrane pressure increases to 200
psig. Allow 5 to 10 minutes for the system to
stabilize. Readings on flow meters are taken at
the indented point of the flow indicator.
J.
Note the reading on the Product Flow Meter.
Enter this flow rate in the Operating Record Log
Sheet under "Initial Start-up."
K.
Refer to Table 3 and find the multiplication factor
which corresponds to the recommended recov-
ery given on your H20 Select water analysis.
Multiply the product flow rate measured in Step
J by this factor to find the required "Reject" flow
rate.

Example:
Measured product flow rate = 400 ml/min.
Water analysis recommends 40% maximum re-
covery.
Multiplication factor for 40% recovery is 1.5.
1.5 (400) = 600 ml/min. reject flow rate required.
L.
Now note the reading on the Reject Flow Meter.
If this rate is higher than the one you calculated,
do the following:
Too High—Open the recycle valve until the
membrane pressure gauge is reading 180 psig.
Then close the reject valve to restore pressure
to 200 psig.
