MXV 450
Checking the chain tensioner
•
Check that there are no blistering or
damages; replace the component if
necessary.
•
Check that the one-way cam works
properly: if it does not move smoothly,
replace the timing chain tensioner
housing.
Checking the chain
Timing chains have different lengths: the front cylinder chain is shorter than the rear cylinder chain.
Check the timing chain for damage or stiffness
while moving.
If necessary, replace the timing chain together with
the camshaft gears.
Check the timing chain guide sliders for damage.
If necessary, replace the parts.
Checking the camshaft
The camshafts are different one from the other: in the rear cylinder the cams are aligned and in the front
cylinder, the outlet cam is opposed.
The camshafts gears and the timing system gears are specific for this vehicle; they have both 21 teeth
and currently they do not have any identification signs.
Timing system shaft check for wear
Check that the friction area of the timing system
shaft oil seal lips is free of cuts or signs of wear.
Use a micrometer to check size (a) of the camshaft lobes:
Camshaft lobes sizes: wear limit value (reference "a")
