It is a lightweight, easy-to-use, reliable computer that runs client/server applications and browser-based applications.

    Chapter 1 — Using the CK31G Handheld Computer Using the Color-Coded Keys The keypad of the CK31G provides color-coded keys to let you access additional characters, symbols, and functions printed on the keypad overlay. Once you understand how to use the color- coded keys and key sequences, you will know how to access all of the additional features printed on the keypad overlay.

    Using the Power (I) Key When you press the I key to turn off the CK31G, you actually put the computer in Suspend mode. In Suspend mode, the CK31G continues to supply power to all memory, but turns off power to most hardware.

    Chapter 1 — Using the CK31G Handheld Computer Using the Touch Screen The CK31G has a color touch screen display. The screen is 240 x 320 pixels. The desktop is 240 x 320 pixels and the taskbar is 240 x 20 pixels. In addition, the screen supports Unicode characters, user-programmable fonts, and bitmap graphics.

    The Start screen has two distinct areas: the desktop and the taskbar. The desktop displays shortcuts to some of the applications installed on the CK31G. The first time you turn on the CK31G, the taskbar displays the Start menu icon, the time, the keyboard icon, and the desktop icon.

    (360°) scanning. Omni-directional scanning means that you can position the CK31G in any orientation to scan a bar code label. Using the 2D area imager is very similar to taking a picture with a digital camera.
  • Page 33 The aiming beam is smaller when the imager is closer to the bar code and larger when it is further away. When the CK31G successfully reads a bar code label, you hear a high beep and the green Good Read light turns on briefly.

    Selecting a Profile for Funk Security You can define up to four profiles for your Funk Odyssey security. Different profiles let your CK31G communicate in different networks without having to change all of your security settings. For example, you might want to set up one profile for the manufacturing floor and one for the warehouse.

    Developing a Web-Based Application You can develop web-based data collection applications for use on the CK31G. For help, see any HTML source book. The CK31G contains Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0 for Windows CE for you to use. The Microsoft standard IE 6.0 is available from the desktop and provides all of the common elements you expect to find.

    8 Close the Control Panel. Backing Up Your Files The CK31G makes it easy for you to make a backup copy of all files you have installed or modified on the computer that are not already located in the SDMMC Disk or CK_FFS folders. When you make a backup copy of the file system, the CK31G saves the file system to a folder called Persistent Copy.

For example, you can run an LED test to determine if your CK31G lights are working correctly. Use the Software diagnostics menu to view the version of your operating system, the bootcode version, and Intermec Value Add (IVA) information.

    Solution You may have accidentally locked a modifier key on the keypad. Check the CK31G taskbar to see if it contains an icon with a locked symbol. Press the necessary key sequence to unlock the key. For help, see “Using the Keypad” on page 6.

    The CK31G is not connected to the access point. Make sure the access point is turned on and operating. You may also be using the CK31G out of range of an access point. Try moving closer to an access point to re- establish communications.

    • Make sure the CK31G is connected to the PC, host computer, or RS-232 serial device using the appropriate cable adapter and null modem cable. • If the CK31G is in a communications dock, make sure that the communications dock is connected to the serial device using the appropriate cable.
  • Page 105 The Good Read light will remain on if you configure the CK31G to use continuous/edge triggering. If you configure the CK31G for level triggering and the Good Read light remains on, there may be a problem. Press the Scan button or pull the trigger again without scanning a bar code label.

    To warm boot the CK31G • Press and hold I for 5 seconds. The CK31G tells you it is performing a warm boot and the screen comes back up to the start screen.
