4 Preparing to Take a Plaster Cast
• The patient must pull on a 641T3=* Body Cover.
• Insert the plug connection of the 743G5 Hip Cast Casting Apparatus into the receiver of the
743A11 Casting Apparatus up to the stop (Fig. 2).
• Secure the plug connection with the clamping screw.
• Measure the ramus angle, hip circumference, and the distance between the ischial tuberosity
and the floor (Fig. 3 and 5).
• Adjust the 743A11 Casting Apparatus to the distance between the ischial tuberosity and floor
measured on the patient and secure it with the set screw (Fig. 4).
• Using the attached bubble level, adjust the height-adjustable support of the 743G5 Hip Cast
Casting Apparatus so that the support plate is horizontal.
• Make sure to tighten the clamping screw of the support after completing the adjustment.
• Insert the 743Y447 Support Plate in the 743G5 Base Unit.
• Check all settings, connections, and the height before positioning the patient on the support
plate.
• Select the appropriate 743Y448=* Silicone Pad and insert it in the recess of the support plate.
• Adjust the position of the silicone pad to the measured ramus angle (Fig. 6).
5 Casting Technique
• Test the fit of the patient on the silicone pad and check whether the position of the pelvis is level
using a 743Y32 Hip Leveling Guide (Fig. 7).
• Check whether the support plate is horizontal using the attached bubble level (Fig. 8).
• Attach the tension belt and mount it to the 743G5 Base Unit (Fig. 9 and 10).
• Apply the tension belt on the patient and check its position and course above the iliac crests
(Fig. 11 and 12).
• Mark the center of the body on the body cover (Fig. 13).
• Cover the support plate and upper part of the base unit with plastic foil for protection and
then apply 640Z5=* Plaster Parting Agent Cream to the surface of the support plate and the
pressure blocks (Fig. 14).
• To fabricate the plaster negative, you need the following:
8-fold longuette of 240 mm wide elastic plaster bandage (699G1=24);
350 mm wide elastic plaster bandage (699G1=35);
three other 150 or 240 mm wide elastic plaster bandages (699G1=15 or 699G1=24).
• Take the plaster cast as usual. More information on taking plaster casts is contained on the
