Non-IBM Servers
USB DVD-RAM USB drives and RDX removable drives features installed in the 7226 attach to USB ports on the
server.
The Removable RDX HDD docking station features on the 7226 only support the USB cable that is provided as
part of the feature. Additional USB hubs, add-on USB cables, or USB cable extenders must be verified using
System.
For each DVD-RAM USB drive, or RDX docking station feature installed in the 7226, the appropriate external USB
cable will be included for attachment to an IBM POWER, BladeCenter, IBM PureFlex, and made available to any
non-IBM System Customer.
FC ADAPTER AND CABLE:
IBM POWER6 AND POWER7 Systems
The half-high LTO-5 FC tape drive (IBM 7226 feature number 8248) and LTO-6 FC tape drive (IBM 7226 feature
number 8348) attach to IBM POWER Systems through the Dual Port Fiber Channel (FC) adapter (System feature
numbers 5749 or 5759). Up to two devices may be attached to a single FC adapter.
IBM POWER8 and POWER9 Systems
The half-high LTO-6 (feature # 8348), LTO-7 (feature # 8446), LTO-8 (feature # 8546), and LTO-9(feature #
8646) Fibre Channel (FC) tape drive features attach to the IBM POWER 8 and POWER9 Systems through a FC
host bus adapter provided (System feature numbers ENOA or ENOB) on the server. A unique Atape driver may
also be required for the AIX operating system when an HH LTO-6, LTO-7, LTO-8 , or LTO-9 FC tape drive is
installed in 7226.
IBM PS700 through PS704 BladeCenters
The half-high LTO-6 (feature # 8348), LTO-7 (feature # 8446), LTO-8 (feature # 8546), and LTO-9(feature #
8646) Fibre Channel (FC) tape drive features attach to the PS700, PS701, PS702, PS703, and through PS704
BladeCenters through the Qlogic FC adapter (BladeCenter feature numbers 8241 or 8271).
IBM PureFlex Blade System
Supports attachment of the LTO-6 (feature # 8348), LTO-7 (feature # 8446), LTO-8 (feature # 8546), and LTO-
9(feature # 8646) Fibre Channel (FC) tape drive features through the 2-Port FC adapter (System feature # 1764).
Non-IBM Servers
The half-high LTO-6 (feature # 8348), LTO-7 (feature # 8446), LTO-8 (feature # 8546), and LTO-9(feature #
8646) Fibre Channel (FC) tape drive features attach to the System through a compatible FC host bus adapter
provided on the server.
For each tape drive feature, each DVD-RAM drive sled and drive feature and each RDX docking station feature
installed in a 7226 storage enclosure, the appropriate external USB or FC cable will be provided for attachment to
an IBM POWER server or IBM BladeCenter.
RDX Removable Hard Disk Cartridges:
500 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB RDX Removable Hard Disk Cartridges (feature numbers 1107, EU01, and EU2T) require
an RDX Drive Docking Station (feature number EU03) which attaches to an internal USB port on the IBM POWER
System.

The 7226 Model 1U3 Storage Enclosure is a precision instrument designed to meet your highest data storage expectations. In
purchasing this product you expect to be able to configure and use it reliably. IBM strives to deliver to you a product that meets
this expectation. As with all mechanical devices, this product drive requires more periodic maintenance and care than the
electronics in your computer. And to ensure a reliable operation of your enclosure, IBM also requires that it be installed and
used properly. The following list outlines several required actions that become your responsibility in the ownership of this
device, and if followed, can not only increase its availability, but may positively affect your warranty:
Install the enclosure in a clean environment.
Use only high-quality, data-grade media.
