Entering Maintenance Mode
The drive must be in maintenance mode to run drive diagnostics or maintenance functions. To place the unit in maintenance
mode:
1. Make sure that no cartridge is in the drive.
2. For the 7226 drive feature drive, press and hold the Unload Button for 6 seconds. The drive is in maintenance mode
when the Ready Status LED is Flashing, the Fault Status LED is Solid, the SCD dot may be On or Off, and the SCD is Solid
0.
3. For the eServer drive, press and hold the Unload Button for 6 seconds. After 6 seconds the Ready Status LED will begin
Flashing, the Fault Status LED will be Solid, the SCD dot may be On or Off, and the Single-character Display (SCD) will
show a Solid 0. At this point when the Unload Button is released, the SCD will change to a Solid 1 as the eServer drive
enters maintenance mode with function 1 selected so a drive diagnostic can be performed with no further interaction.
Note: If a cartridge is in the tape drive, it will eject the first time that you press the Unload Button and the drive will not
be placed in maintenance mode. To continue placing the drive in maintenance mode, perform the preceding step. While
in Maintenance Mode, the drive will not accept a cartridge unless the drive requests it. The SCD will display a flashing C
to indicate a cartridge needs to be inserted.
Maintenance functions cannot be performed concurrently with read or write operations. While in maintenance mode,
the drive does not receive commands from the server.
Exiting Maintenance Mode
The drive must be in maintenance mode to run drive diagnostics or maintenance functions. To exit maintenance mode:
1. Press and hold the Unload Button for 3 or more seconds only if the selected function on the SCD is 0. Pressing and
holding the Unload Button with any other function selected will cause the selected function to begin execution. Then
release the button to take the drive out of maintenance mode. If no error is detected, 0 temporarily appears in the SCD
and then goes blank. Both the 7226 drive feature and eServer drives will exit maintenance mode automatically after the
completion of a selected function and the Ready Status LED will return to Green.
a. With the 7226 drive feature drive, you can cycle through the functions repeatedly. By selecting function 0 and
pressing and holding the Unload Button for 3 or more seconds you can exit maintenance mode. If there has been
no action for 10 minutes while in maintenance mode, the 7226 drive feature will automatically exit.
b. With the eServer drive, you cannot cycle through the functions repeatedly. Once you cycle through all of the
available functions and are back at 0, the drive will automatically exit maintenance mode. If there has been no
