Transport of fluids and air from the thorax. Measurement
and regulation of the vacuum on the patient's side.
• Trained doctors
• Trained healthcare professionals
Users must not be hard of hearing or deaf and must have
adequate vision.
Patients of all ages with and without restrictions.
Accumulated air and fluids in the thorax (pleural cavity,
mediastinum, pericardium), which must be drained,
monitored and balanced in a controlled manner.
Thorax (pleural cavity. mediastinum, pericardium).
Short-term use on the patient (< 30 days)
The application site is the clinical area. The cardiothoracic
drainage system may only be applied by healthcare
professionals. The device is applied unsterile. The
secretion canister and the hose system are sterile and
disposable; they can be used in the sterile OT area.
Patients who require a cardiothoracic drainage (pleura,
mediastinal or pericardial drainage).
• After surgical openings of the thorax
• Pneumothorax
• Pleural effusion
• Hemothorax
• Pleural empyema
• Chylothorax
• Other similar clinical pictures
• Not suitable for use on patients with large air leaks (≥4.5
l/min) and coagulum.
• Not suitable for cardiothoracic drainage therapy in
which no vacuum should be applied to the patient.
• No application with other cardiothoracic drainage
systems other than the ATMOS C 051 Thorax, ATMOS S
201 Thorax and ATMOS E 201 Thorax
• No separate application of the secretion canister and
the hose system (i.e. without device) as gravity drainage.
• No application under emergency conditions.
• Should not be used in the homecare sector which is not
supervised by healthcare professionals.
• No suction of flammable, corrosive or explosive fluids/
gases
The following complications may occur during a
cardiothoracic drainage:
• Pain due to irritation of the intercostal nerves
• Injuries to the lung parenchyma / air leakage
• Re-expansion edema
• Effusion retention
• Tension pneumothorax
• Skin / soft tissue emphysema.
