8.1 INTRODUCTION
The foregoing information has been com-
piled from operational experience with your
package. It identifies symptoms and diagno-
sis of SEVERAL probable difficulties, but
NOT ALL of those possible.
The systematic collection of operational data
cannot be over--emphasized, as it may give
evidence of the presence (or not) of a fault
before it turns into a serious breakdown -- for
example, the vibrations signature increase of
a damaged bearing, or the efficiency de-
crease of a dirty heat exchanger.

COMPRESSOR DOES NOT
BUILD FULL DISCHARGE
PRESSURE
A detailed visual inspection is worth perform-
ing for almost all problems and may avoid un-
necessary additional damage to the com-
pressor. Always remember to:
1. Check for loose wiring.
2. Check for damaged piping.
3. Check for parts damaged by heat or an
electrical short circuit, usually apparent by
discoloration or a burnt odor.
Should your problem persist after making the
recommended check, consult your nearest
Sullair representative or the Sullair Corpora-
tion factory toll free at 1--800--SULLAIR.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Discharge Temperature Exceeded
225_ F (107 _ C) for Pre- -Alarm
Discharge Temperature Exceeded
235_ F (113_C) for Shutdown
Ambient Temperature Exceeded
105_ F (41 _C)
Fluid Level in Sump is Too Low
Thermal Valve Malfunctioned
Cooler Fins are Dirty
Water Flow is Low (water- -cooled
packages only)
Water Temperature is High (water- -
cooled packages only)
Cooler is Plugged (water- -cooled
packages only)
Temperature RTD Malfunction
P1 MAX - - 3psi (.2 bar) Exceeded for
Pre- -Alarm
P1 MAX Exceeded for Shutdown
Discharge Pressure Exceeded
Shutdown Level Because:
Unloading Device (i.e., Blowdown
Valve, Inlet Poppet Valve, Optional
Spiral Valve) Failed to Operate
Pressure Regulator Maladjusted
Solenoid Valve Failed
to Operate
Control Air Signal Leaks
Control Air Signal Filter Clogged
Plugged Separator
dP1 > 10 psi (0.7 bar)
Air Demand Exceeds Supply
TROUBLESHOOTING
REMEDY
Improve local ventilation (i.e.,
remote intake of process and/or
cooling air.
Check/correct fluid level.
Check/replace thermal valve.
Clean cooler fins.
Check cooling water supply (i.e.,
closed valves).
Increase water flow, lower water
temperature.
Clean tubes and/or shell - - if tube
plugging persists, provide cleaner
water.
Check connections from RTD.
If adequate, replace RTD.
Check operation of unloading device.
Check operation of pressure regulator.
Check operation of solenoid valve.
Check tubework feeding control
signal for leaks.
Service filter assembly.
Replace separator elements.
Check P1 & P2 pressure transducers.
Check air service lines for open
valves or leaks.
