Check the quality of fuel in the fuel tank. Use a commercially
Fuel Quality
available fuel tester to verify ethanol content is ≤ 10%.
Fill the fuel tank with fresh fuel. The fuel pump may need to be
Fuel Level
primed or air purged from fuel system after running out of fuel.
Verify the key is in the ON / RUN position. Test the switch using
Ignition Switch
continuity test tables in the Electrical Chapter.
Verify the switch is pulled up. Test the switch using continuity test
tables in the Electrical Chapter.
Verify the throttle cable freeplay is set to specification. Test the
TRS using test information in the Electrical Chapter.
Verify the fuel pump wire harness is connected and no wires are
damaged.
Connect a fully-charged 12V battery to the fuel pump prime
connector. The fuel pump should turn on.
Connect Digital Wrench to the vehicle. Use Output state control to
test the fuel pump function. ECU must command the fuel pump to
turn on when using Output State Control testing.
Fuel Pressure using a fully-charged 12V battery connected to fuel
pump prime connectors =
Fuel Pressure
650 Models: 42 to 49 psi (292 to 336 kPa)
850 Models: 57 to 62.5 psi (393 to 431 kPa)
Inspect the fuel pump pick-up sock. Replace the sock if it is
contaminated with foreign material.
Verify the specified spark plugs are installed and gapped to
Spark Plug Type
specification.
NGK BPR9ES / Gap: .27 in (.70 mm)
Replace fouled / damaged spark plugs.
Use a commercially available spark plug tester set at the specified
electrode gap.
Inspect high tension wires and boots for damage / stripped ends.
Test both cylinders under the same conditions using the same
compression tester. Verify the compression difference between
the cylinders is ≤ 15%.
Test stator coil resistance. Reference the Electrical Chapter for
resistance specifications.
Stator
Inspect 2 and 5 tooth position sensors.
Inspect the flywheel / magnets for damage. Inspect the flywheel
Flywheel
key.
The PBR is a smart regulator that is CAN capable. If the PBR /
System Power
charging system has an issue it will report a Diagnostic Trouble
Code.
