DETONATION (DET) TROUBLESHOOTING

If the check engine LED is illuminated and/or flashing with "dET" or "DETONATION" displayed on the instrument
cluster, reference the following table.
POSSIBLE CAUSES OF (DET) ACTIVATION
Low fuel/no fuel in tank
Incorrect fuel type selector setting
Poor quality fuel / water in fuel
Alcohol-based fuel additives used with ethanol fuel
Restricted fuel pickup in fuel tank
Low fuel pressure
Low fuel injector voltage
Faulty / plugged fuel injector
Exhaust valve system malfunction
Knock sensor malfunction
Air leaks
Engine/exhaust modifications
Engine coolant temperature too high
Mechanical failure

EXTENDED IDLE ENGINE SHUTDOWN MODE

This engine feature causes the ECU to shut down the engine when engine temperature reaches 86 °F (30 °C) and
there is no throttle lever input for eleven minutes.
If equipped with electric start, the 7S display (if equipped) will remain on when the key is in the ON position. After 60
seconds, the display backlight will dim and then fully shut down after 10 minutes of inactivity.

SOLUTION
Refill tank with recommended fuel
Verify the correct fuel type is set using fuel selector
Replace with higher quality fuel. Recommended 91
octane minimum
Do not use deicers or additives that contain any form of
alcohol when using ethanol-blended fuel
Inspect fuel pump pickup if fuel is found to be
contaminated
Verify fuel pressure is within specification at idle and while
Verify fuel injection circuit is at 22 VDC via P1347 code
when engine is running
Use Digital Wrench to troubleshoot
Verify valves are not stuck open, vent hoses are not
frozen or plugged
Use Digital Wrench to troubleshoot
Verify knock sensor screw torque is set to specification
Verify air intake system is sealed. Check throttle body
boots for cracks/tears/loose parts. Remove after-market
air intake system.
Remove modifications
Check cooling system. Ride snowmobile on loose,
unpacked snow.
Verify crankcase seals are good (not leaking). Verify
engine in good condition. Check spark plugs.
