Fax Problems

If a fax cannot be sent or received correctly, refer to the following table, then perform the indicated
operation. If a fax still cannot be sent or received correctly, even after you perform the described
operations, contact your service representative.

Symptom
The document is not scanned
using the document feeder.
The document is scanned at
an angle.
The recipient fax received is
blurry.
The recipient fax received is
blank.
Fax was not transmitted.

Symptom
The received fax is blank.
Cause
The document is too thick, too
thin, or too small.
The document feeder guides are
not adjusted to the width of the
document.
The document is positioned
incorrectly.
The document glass is dirty.
The text in the document is too
faint.
There is a problem with the
telephone connection.
There is a problem with the fax
machine of the caller.
The document was loaded
incorrectly.
The fax number is wrong.
The telephone line is connected
incorrectly.
There is a problem with the fax
machine of the recipient.
Cause
There is a problem with the
telephone connection or with the
fax machine of the caller.
Solution
Use the document glass to send the
fax.
Adjust the document feeder guides to
fit the width of the document.
Position the document correctly.
Clean the document glass.
Adjust the resolution. Adjust the
contrast.
Check the telephone line, then send
the fax again.
Make a copy to check that the printer
is operating correctly. Then, if the copy
was printed correctly, have the
recipient check the condition of their
fax machine.
In document feeder, place the
document to be faxed face up.
In document glass, place the
document to be faxed face down.
Check the fax number.
Check the telephone line connection.
If it is disconnected, connect it.
Contact the recipient.
Solution
Check that the printer can make clean
copies. If it can, have the caller send
the fax again.
