Sensor Installation
Ensure that coverage of equipment is sufficient regarding the number of sen-
sors. Ten (10) sensors will work in most circumstances, given no obstruction
between gateway and sensor. The key factor is obstruction since, with no ob-
struction, it is possible to have more than ten sensors operating normally. Use
multiple gateways to accommodate more sensors and to ensure proper cov-
erage of a test site.
For larger equipment, more sensors may be needed, as discussed earlier.
Use a sufficient number of sensors to provide good surface-area coverage of
assets.

6.5 Documenting Sensor Locations

It is important to document the sensor and test point locations for all equip-
ment in a test system, as discussed in Section 7, Mapping a Test Site. A
spreadsheet is ideal for documenting gateways, test points, sensors, sensor
groups, etc.
Having accurate documentation helps locate, track, and assess equipment
easily for preventive maintenance programs and servicing.
