12. SMART DRIVE CABLE
VKA/VLA/VYA TYPES ONLY
CABLE ADJUSTMENT

The engine will be running and the cutting blades will be
spinning during this procedure.
If you come in contact with a spinning blade, it will cut you
severely and can amputate fingers and toes.
Wear protective footwear and keep your hands and feet away
from the mower deck while performing this procedure.
1. Place the mower on a smooth, level ground and adjust the wheel height
adjusters to the lowest position (27 mm [1 in]).
2. Loosen the adjuster jam nut.
3. Have an assistant hold the flywheel brake lever against the handlebar and
then start the engine.
4. Adjust the cable adjuster using the appropriate procedure below.
Lawn mower propels forward without engaging the Smart Drive
lever:
Slowly loosen the cable adjuster until the lawn mower stops moving, and
then slowly tighten the adjuster until the mower begins to creep forward
without engaging the Smart Drive lever.
LOOSEN the cable adjuster five (5) complete revolutions using the
adjuster mark as a reference.
Lawn mower does not propel forward without engaging the Smart
Drive lever
Slowly tighten the cable adjuster until the lawn mower begins to creep
forward without engaging the Smart Drive lever.
LOOSEN the cable adjuster five (5) complete revolutions using the
adjuster mark as a reference.
5. Release the flywheel brake lever, and then tighten the jam nut to lock the
adjuster in place.
