Fuel requirements
Your Cadillac is designed to operate on a good
Qu.lity fuel of .pproxim.tely 91 Research Oc·
tane Number or higher, commonly sold in the
United States and Canada. Use of a fuel which is
too low in antt-knock quality will result in
"spark knock", a metallic rapping noise gener-
ated during the combustion process. It should be
noted that Research Octane Number does not
completely describe fuel octane quality. There-
fore, if you hear a knock in your engine you may
wish to try • different gamline. If knocking
persists consult your authorized Cadillac dealer.
In any case, continuous or excessive knocking may
resuJt in engine damage and constitutes misuse of
the engine for which the C.dill.c Motor Car Divi·
sian is not responsible under the terms of the New
Vehicle Warranty.
General Motors recommends the use of
unle.ded or low-lead (0 to 0.5 grams per g.lIon)
gasolines to minimize emissions of hydrocarbons
.nd
particul.te~
If unleaded or low-Ie.d gasolines
are not available gasolines containing mar! than
0.5 grams per gallon may
be
ulOd.
In states using the Gasofine Performance and
Information System of fuel designation, unleaded
or low-lead fuels having an anti-knock designation
of "2" or higher are recommended.
