JUMP STARTING WITH AUXILIARY
(BOOSTER) BAnERY
80th booster and disch.rged Nrtery should be
t..ated carefully when using jumper cables. Follow
exactly
the procedure outlin!d below, being care-
ful not to cause sparks:
1.
Set parking brake and place transmission in
"PARK". Turn off lighu, heater and other
electrical loads.
2.
Remove vent caps from both the booster and
the discharged batterl... Lay a cloth over the
open vent wells of each battery. These
two
actions help reduce the explosion hazard
always present in either battery when con-

necting "live" booster batteries to "dead"
batteries.
3. Attach one end of one jumper cable to the
positive terminal of the
booster bBttery
(identified by
I
red color, "+" or "P" on the
battery
"'le,
post or clamp) and the other
end of same cable to positive terminal of
discMrg«J I»rr...-y.
00 NOT permit cars to
touch each other, as this could establish a
ground connection and counteract the bene-
fits of this p<oced.....
4. Attach one
end
of the remaining negative
cable to the negative terminal (black color,
"-" or "N" of
thaboostrbtttsry,
and the
other
end
to the bolt hood and p<ojection
between the first
two
spark plugs on the
right sid. of the IIIgm. in your 1973 Cadillac
(do not

dead batt.ry) - taking care that clamps from
on. cable do not inadvertently touch the
clamps on the other cable. 00 not lean over
the battery when making this connection.
Reverse thiS sequence exactly when
removing
the jumper cables. Re·install vent caps and throw
cloths away as the cloths may have corrosive acid
on them.
CAUTION: Any procedure other than the
above could result ,n:
(1)
personal injury
caused by electrolyte squirting out the battery
vents, 12) personal inJUry or property damage
due to battery explosion, 13) damage to the
charging system of the booster vehicle or the
immobilized vehicle
Engine coolant
CAUTION:
• To aVOid the danger of being burned, do not
remove radiator cap while engine and radiator
are stili hot. because the cooling system will
blow
out

cap
to check engme
coolant level; check coolant visually at the
see-through coolant
reservOIr.
• Proper coolant level at normal engine operat-
ing temperature

• Coolant should be added only to the reservoir
