10 Appendix

10.1 Model with Auxiliary Air Supply (No Compressor)

The Night Scan Chief comes standard with an air compressor to deliver air to the mast, however
an optional air valve in conjunction with customer supplied air source may be used instead. This
section discusses the differences a Night Scan Chief with air valve will have from a standard
model. Be sure to read and understand the Safety Summary Section 1 before beginning any
installation procedure.

Supply Air Requirements

Table 10-1 describes specifications for supply air that apply to the Night Scan Chief with Air
Valve.

Installing Supply Air Connections

A barbed fitting is provided for connecting the air-line required to pressurize the system. Air may
be supplied externally by a compressor or other source of clean, dry air with a maximum pres-
sure of 90 psi (6.2 bar). The unit has an internal regulator factory set to 20 psi (1.4 bar). Figure
10-1 shows the location of the air inlet. The inlet fitting is to be used with a 3/8 inch (or equivalent
metric) inside diameter air hose rated for the pressure supplied in combination with environmen-
tal factors, which may derate the hose (e.g. high temperatures). The unit is supplied with 20 feet
(6 m) of air hose labeled SUPPLY to designate the pressurized air to be routed to the INLET of
the unit. As with standard models, mast air exhausts within the base cover during retraction.
