Fault table

Notes:
All the possible faults which can be detected
by the control unit -J234- and displayed by
the vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552, are
listed in the table on the basis of the 5-digit
fault code.
Ignore SAE code which may also be dis-
played on the right next to fault number (e.g.
4214).
If →Info in literature→ appears in the dis-
play of the vehicle system tester, look for the
text required in the fault table by referring to
the fault code.

After completing repairs, always once again
interrogate the fault memory with the vehi-
cle system tester V.A.G 1552, and erase it.
If components are shown as faulty:
First of all, test all the cables and plug con-
nections to these components, and also the
earth connections according to the current
flow diagram. Replace the component only
if such tests do not reveal a fault. This ap-
plies in particular if the fault has been dis-
played as sporadic (SP).
