Inspecting seat belts

Warning!
Following an accident the seat belt system must
systematically be examined! If it is found to be
damaged on the basis of the items checked, the
customer must be informed of the necessity of
having the seat belts replaced with new genuine
parts.
Check items:
l Check seat belt
l Check retractor (locking action)
l Visual inspection of buckle
l Functional check of buckle
l Check sash guides and buckle latches
l Check attachment parts and attachment points
l Check lap belt retractor
Note:
If the customer refuses to have a damaged seat
belt replaced, this must be recorded as such.
Checking seat belt
-
Pull seat belt completely out of retractor or
lap belt adjustment latch.

Check seat belt for:
l Soiling, wash with soap water if necessary.
l Cracked fabric loops on the belt side.
l Cuts, cracks or scuff marks.
l Burn stains caused, among others, by ciga-
rettes.

If a crashed car exhibits one of the above-
mentioned damages, the seat belt together
with the buckle must be replaced with a new
genuine part.
