3.3 The Vertical Segment
This segment holds the objective, condenser and light source as could be seen in Figure 5.3. To mount
this segment, first remove the top part of whole assembly by unlocking the two screws that connect this
to the vertical post. Next, release the screw attaching the lower C1500 to the vertical post and adjust its
height until the four ER1.5 rods can slide into the four cage rod holes on the fixed C6W of the Beam
expander segment. Lock the C1500 to the DP14 once the height is right. Slide the four ER1.5 rods (with
vertical post base sliding also) into C6W just enough such that the rods don‟t interfere with the rotation
of the B4C in the cube. Use the four set screws on the sides of the C6W to hold rods tightly to the cube.
The DP14 Post can now be locked down to the table (using CL5 clamps) along with the CPB1 bases
(using CL6 clamps) when the holes in the base do not align. Then follow the alignment instructions as
described in Section 6.3 steps 6) to 13).
Next, mount the top part that was initially removed and to align this correctly, follow the instructions in
Section 6.5, steps 16) to 21)
