Physical Planning Overview Planning overview This section provides an overview of the planning requirements for Dell EMC Disk Library for mainframe (DLm) installation. This section reviews Dell EMC responsibilities and outlines your responsibilities as a DLm user for the following DLm systems:...
Physical Planning Overview DLm system presite considerations This section describes about the presite plan for DLm system installation. When planning the installation site for your DLm system, meet with your Dell EMC representative to complete the presite plan. Physical specifications...
Remote support This section describes about the remote support service. Remote support is an important and part of the Dell EMC customer service and support strategy. Communication between the Dell EMC Customer Support Center and the DLm occurs either through IP connections to the local area network.
Physical Planning Overview password. SSH trust is established when DLm is installed, or when new storage systems or VTEs are added to the DLm. Planning for upgrades When planning for upgrades, consider space, power, and environmental concerns. Disk Library for mainframe Physical Planning Guide for DLm8500...

DLm8500 with Data Domain Physical Planning Figure 6 Fully loaded DLm8500 Multiple Rack Solution with PowerMax and ECS VTEC cabinet This section provides an overview of VTEC cabinet. The DLm8500 VTEC cabinet contains: One to eight VTEs including one or two management VTEs Note: 1-6 VTEs are standard.
Single Rack Solution or a DLm8500 Single Rack HA Solution system into a third-party rack, Dell EMC ships that equipment in a 12U mini-rack enclosure. The DLm8500 equipment is not intended to operate from within the mini-rack enclosure. Dell EMC field service personnel should remove the DLm8500 VTEC equipment from the mini- rack and install that equipment appropriately into a third-party rack of customer.
Dell EMC recommend that you use an equipment lift to move the equipment from the 12U mini-rack into a third-party rack. Dell EMC recommend that you move the VTE servers first from the mini-rack into the third-party rack before you move the switches that are shipped higher up in the 12U mini-rack.
EIA rails and 30” clearance that is required behind front EIA rails for Dell EMC equipment and cable routing. Inlet and exhaust areas of Dell EMC equipment should not be restricted. Any panels or doors in front of them should have at least 50% open area.
Network ports are required to connect the DLm and the SRS gateways. Note: If you need to resolve errors, before continuing, you must contact Dell EMC Support for assistance to determine which port to open. The following table provides a list of required network ports to connect the DLm and the SRS gateways.

Before connecting supply The DLm configurations are Stationary Pluggable Type B systems, and the application of the warning label, Dell EMC P/N 046-000-309, are in English and French. The label location for the DLm configuration is on the inside the front door.
UPS from a qualified vendor. Dell EMC do not offers or recommends any specific UPS suppliers or product type to its customers. However, Dell EMC uses preferred suppliers for UPS systems in their facilities.
Page 45
Environmental specifications and regulatory compliance The UPS should be installed as a separately derived AC source using neutral and ground wiring to preserve the fault tolerance specification of the DLm power system. Depending on the power requirements for your DLm system operation, an isolation transformer/stabilizer installed in front of the UPS could further buffer the AC utility environmental factors from reaching DLm.
