Appendix D: Optional equipment
RVSS bypass
When the connected mechanical equipment cannot tolerate
a full-voltage bypass start, reduced voltage solid state bypass
can provide bypass functionality while delivering a smoother,
softer motor start. This can eliminate high motor inrush
currents and connected load mechanical stresses. In
addition, RVSS is easier on the electrical supply system,
softening the burden during the motor start.
This bypass method works well on conveyors, PD pumps
or systems where supplied voltage is limited. Figure 88
shows a typical RVSS cabinet.

Under normal operation, the SC9000 EP is operating and
providing power to the connected motor. The bypass
contactor is in the non-bypass position, with power from
the reduced voltage soft start system not connected to the
motor through the bypass contactor.
