Disconnect power before servicing.
Replace all parts and panels before operating.
Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.

THERMAL FUSE

Refer to page 4-7 for the procedure for servic-
ing the thermal fuse.
Electric Dryers: The thermal fuse is wired in
series with the drive motor. If the thermal fuse
opens, 91°C (196°F), power to the motor is
turned off. A centrifugal switch on the motor
also opens the heater circuit.
Once the thermal fuse has opened, it will not
reset, and must be replaced. Check for a failed
thermistor, or a shorted heater element.
Gas Dryers: The thermal fuse is wired in
series with the gas valve. If the thermal fuse
opens, 91°C (196°F), power to the valve is
turned off. A centrifugal switch on the motor
also opens the heater circuit.
Once the thermal fuse has opened, it will not
reset, and must be replaced. Check for a failed
thermistor.

1. Unplug dryer or disconnect power.
2. Turn off gas supply to dryer.
3. Disconnect the wires from the thermal fuse.
4. Set the ohmmeter to the R X 1 scale.
5. Touch the ohmmeter test leads to the ther-
mal fuse terminals. The meter should indi-
cate continuity (0 Ω). If the meter indicates
an open circuit (infinite), replace the ther-
mal fuse.
