5.2.5 Configure the Scan Method / Cell Selection

The Scan Method / Cell Selection setting has to do with how the UE selects the best wireless signal
between it and an eNB for its connection to the LTE network. The setting determines which
frequencies the UE's routine scan of available frequencies will cover.
Scanning is a process of tuning to specific frequencies and using a simple measure of signal quality to
select the best cell (eNB) with which to communicate. It is a routine background function that occurs
regularly to ensure the UE is using the best available signal.
Follow the steps below to configure the scanning method (CAT4) / cell selection (CAT6/7). The GUIs vary
slightly between CAT4 and CAT6/7.
1. In the CAT4 GUI go to LTE > Scan Method, and in the CAT6/7 GUI go to the Settings tab and
select LTE > Cell Selection (Figure 13).

Full Band
(default) - The UE will routinely scan all channels in the band, which gives the UE
more choices but can make the time it takes to connect longer than the other modes. The
band is dependent on the model of UE being used.
Frequency Lock / Dedicated EARFCN
this option, additional fields appear (Figure 14). Input the specific frequencies and the
preferred E-UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number (EARFCN), which represents a
specific LTE band and frequency. This information would come from your service provider. You
can enter up to 9 frequency lock lists. The UE will scan only the frequency + EARFCN
combinations during its routine scans.
PCI Lock
- Select the specific Physical Cell Identifier (PCI), which is a unique identification
assigned to each eNB, and EARFCN combination (Figure 15). Enter the PCI and EARFCN
information. You can enter up to 9 PCI lock lists. The UE will scan only the PCI + EARFCN
combinations during its routine scans. In the CAT6/7 GUI, if PCI Lock is selected, this window
will display the scan results under Site Survey.
- Specify which band(s) the UE will scan. When you select
