same gas type.
5. Once the relevant connections have been made, a check must be carried out to ensure
that all equipment is in working order.

Commissioning

1. Connect and start up downstream equipment. Please also follow the instructions issued
by the manufacturers of the downstream equipment you are using.
Open the valve on the compressed gas cylinder slowly. Open the handwheel
2.
on the cylinder valve as far as it will go and then turn it back half a revolution. The
cylinder pressure will now be displayed on the inlet pressure gauge.
3. Read the cylinder pressure and determine the how long the gas in it will last. You might
need to replace the compressed gas cylinder to ensure that the downstream equipment
will remain in operation for the requisite time. Medical gases are a medicinal product
and as such may only be used in accordance with instructions issued by the doctor
responsible for the care of the patient in question.
The patient and the pressure indicated on the gauge must be monitored continu-
ously.
If no gas is being drawn: close the valve on the compressed gas cylinder. The pressure
regulator is not a check valve.
To avoid misunderstandings, never leave the appliance connected to the patient unsuper-
vised or connected when it is not in use.
Make sure that gas from the patient is not able to get inside the pressure regulator
(backflow). Should this happen, the appliance must be sent back to the manufacturer
immediately for cleaning.

at the end of operation

Close the valve on the compressed gas cylinder by hand.
Use up the remaining gas in the pressure regulator or vent it fully. The gauge must fall
back to "0". Wait until the pressure regulator has depressurised fully before unscrewing it
- failure to do this can damage the gaskets.
Downstream equipment can then be disconnected. Please also refer to the instructions for
use issued by the manufacturer of the downstream equipment.
Cover the connections with suitable protective caps.
