load or a significant difference in grounding potential. The shield wire of the CAN cable is only
connected to the metal housing of the FPA on one side. The maximum permissible cable
length (see the table "Achievable cable length, depending on the number of nodes and cable
resistance" Page 72) depends on the loop resistance of the cable that is used and on the
number of communicating nodes. With the J-Y-ST/Y2x2x0.8 cable, two nodes with a maximum
distance of approx. 800 m can be connected, for example.

The distance between two nodes in loop topology can be determined by reading off the value
at two nodes in the diagram (see Figure 3.5).

The simple, straightforward Fire System Designer (FSD) planning software can be used to
plan fire alarm systems that conform to the relevant limiting values, e.g. in terms of cable
length and power supply.
