9.1 Communication Feature
SICAM MMU supports only the communication via Ethernet.
NOTE
Siemens recommends not using SICAM MMU in Ethernet systems with high utilization (GOOSE, other Ether-
net data traffic) without a connected external Ethernet switch. Since none of the devices is equipped with an
internal Ethernet switch, high network utilization might result in overloading of the data traffic in the device
and thus in malfunctions, even if the data traffic is intended for other devices in the network.
This always applies as soon as a network cable is connected.

Ethernet Communication

Via the Ethernet interface the following are supported:
• Parameterization, analysis and diagnosis with HTML pages
• DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) to assign the network configuration (IP address etc.) to
clients in an Ethernet network with DHCP server
• Time synchronization via NTP
• Data exchange with connected devices via Modbus TCP or IEC 60870-5-104
