ALIBRATION

NTRODUCTION
It is recommended that the EX1401 have factory calibration performed annually to ensure that the
instrument maintains its accuracy and precision. The following procedure describes the resources
and steps necessary to perform factory calibration of EX1401 Instrument. Optionally, you can
purchase factory calibration services, and send the EX1401 units back to VTI Instruments
authorized service center for calibration.

Equipment Needed

(1) Thermocouple Simulator-Calibrator: Ectron Model 1140A or equivalent

Cables Needed

(1) Calibration cable: As explained in Error! Reference source not found.
(2) Grounding wire

Software Needed

A JavaScript enabled web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)
JSON editor application (e.g., jsoneditoronline.org)
Spreadsheet application (e.g., Microsoft Excel)

RELIMINARY
ETUP
In order to achieve specified performance, all instruments should achieve thermal stability, before
proceeding to calibration. For this reason, it is required to power-up all instruments for the warm-
up duration time, as recommended in their manuals. It is recommended to allow EX1401 to warm-
up for at least 60 minutes and it is also recommended to update the firmware of EX1401 instrument
to the latest, prior to starting calibration process.

LEARING USER COEFFICIENTS AND LOADING DEFAULTS
Open the soft front panel of the EX1401 instrument in any compatible web browser. For more
information, refer to Web Page Operation in Section 4. Before performing the full factory
calibration, it is required to clear any user defined calibration coefficients and load the factory
default values. In order to do that:
In the Soft Front Panel 'User Full Calibration' table

Reset the unit by selecting 'Reset' from the Web Page interface

Default coefficients now reside in the unit's operating (Current Full Calibration) memory

EX1401 Calibration
Click 'Clear Saved'
Select the 'Load By Default' checkbox
