Diagnostic Message Formats
In "Application Fields," we described the Data Highway message fields
defined at the application layer. Here, we describe the format of each
specific type of diagnostic command message and reply message at the
application layer. In each of these formats, we also show the Data
Highway Fields to indicate where the application-layer fields fit in the
message packet. Diagnostic commands help you control and maintain the
network. The commands are:
Diagnostic Loop
Diagnostic Read
Diagnostic Status
Set Timeout
Set Attempts
Set ENQS
Set Variables
Reset Diagnostic Counters
Diagnostic Loop
Use this command to check the integrity of transmissions over the
communication link. The command message transmits up to 243 bytes of
data to a node interface. The receiving interface should reply to this
command by transmitting the same data back to the originating node. You
can send this command to any node interface.
