  • Page 20: Continuous Form Attachment Or Continuous Feeder Attachment

    The Continuous Form Attachment is manufactured by Neuralog, LP. The NeuraLabel 500e CFA has been designed to work with the NeuraLabel 500e printer. It is not compatible with the original NeuraLabel printer; nor is the original NeuraLabel CFA compatible with this next generation printer.
  • Page 21: Continuous Form Stacker

    The Printer Operator Panel is a touch screen display and control panel located on the front of the NeuraLabel 500e. It is used to view and set printer functionality and job status. Default values are customizable.Note that most printer functions are accessed through the menu button found in the lower right corner of the screen.

    Figure 1-4. NeuraLabel 500e Print Cartridges 1.2.8 Fuser The fuser is the part of the printer that melts the toner onto the media. For the NeuraLabel 500e the fuser is located on the LEFT side of the printer. Neuralog provides fusers for the NeuraLabel 500e.

    NeuraLabel will have an easy time transitioning to the new device. 1.3.1 Attributes that affect the Print NeuraLabel 500e has both increased speed and quality. It also has additional features related to controlling cutting and setting a top margin. The table below depicts some of these differences as well as similarities.

      1.3.3 Extended Life Consumables Consumables for NeuraLabel 500e like its predecessor are all extra high yield. Toner cartridges are recyclable as before and can be returned with included Return Label. All consumables are available for sale at Neuralog’s online store.

    NeuraLabel Setup 2.1 Setting up the Printer NeuraLabel 500e setup is simple and should only take a few minutes. Before you begin, you will need to choose an easily accessible location and decide how the printer will be integrated into your network.

However, it is important to make sure the media flow is in no way restricted by the box lid, placement of the box, or by plastic in the box.

    Select a location for your printer that is near a power outlet. When running at full functionality, printers consume a significant amount of power. Using a power strip or long extension cord can interfere with printing. NeuraLabel 500e can be 110v or 220v. Make sure you have the correct printer for your power conditions.

    This sequence can be observed by cycling the printer power. The NeuraLabel 500e printer switches to a power saving mode or sleep state when there is no activity. When the printer is in the sleep state it stops power to the CFA. You will notice the CFA turn OFF at this time.

      2.5.1 Loading the Continuous Form Media Media is loaded into the NeuraLabel 500e printer with the marks face up. (This is different than the original NeuraLabel printer.) Using two hands pick up the first sheet of continuous form labels and then place them in the CFA within the guides. Gently move the media along the track.

    2.5.3 Choosing the Correct Start Page The NeuraLabel 500e is set up to print immediately on the first sheet of the fanfold labels. For proper folding, it is necessary that the infold page is loaded first to allow for optimal folding into the basket.

All copies of a job come out as a single print. Cut between jobs is checked by default. The printer will cut between each job. The printer will always cut when it reaches the last job in the queue.

    2.9 Installing and Setting up the NeuraPrinter Driver The print driver that ships with the NeuraLabel 500e is needed for continuous form printing. The print driver can be found on a CD that shipped in the accessary box with your Continuous Form Attachment and stacker, or it can be downloaded from www.neuralog.com.

We recommend the Extract option so the driver files are saved onto your file system for later access. This is useful for installing multiple instances of the driver. You should specify a location on your local or network drive to save these files.

Use this feature to create a watermark such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL for your labels.     2.10 Customizing the Print Driver Setup While your NeuraLabel 500e is primarily a continuous form printer, it does have the ability to print cut sheets. If you want to use the printer in this way there are two options. The second option is recommended.

    Neuralog has extensively tested specific media that work well with the NeuraLabel 500e and selected the best label brands and types to recommend to the end user. Our testing has shown that using other media can lead to prints of inferior quality and possibly even CFA or printer jams.

    There should not be a chad near the perforation on the page you load as this might cause the media to snag. If your NeuraLabel 500e system is leaving a chad on the first page of the print, contact Neuralog support for an adjustment to the cut location.

    If your printing system is not making cuts to this specification, please contact Neuralog support for an adjustment. The CFA uses a ceramic rotary blade cutter mounted on a large screw drive. It is driven by a bidirectional motor and can cut from either the Left or Right starting position.

    4.4 Printing in Color or Black-and-White While NeuraLabel 500e has full color printing capabilities, it also has a special mode allowing it to be used as a Black-and-White laser printer. When in its normal print mode all four cartridges are engaged in the printing process.

    4.7 Margin Settings The NeuraLabel 500e allows you to control the initial top margin of printed labels. The value on the continuous print parameters panel called Initial Page Top Margin Adjustment should be used to adjust the top margin of the first printed label.

    4.8.7 Print Placement The NeuraLabel 500e can place documents in a batch print within +/- 0.10 inch or +/- 2.5 mm of target. This means that within a batch of labels, there should be at most a 0.20 inch (5.0 mm) maximum difference in label placement for any two labels.

    Therefore the more prints made on a specific media, the better the consecutive print batches will be. Automatic Media Calibration is turned on by default for your NeuraLabel 500e printer and will stay on unless disabled by the user. Note that every time you change media type, the calibration routine will need to be run before the image stretch and placement are within specification.

    Printer Install Date First use of the printer. This will be prior to your purchase date because every printer is tested in the Neuralog quality control lab before being shipped to clients. Serial Number This number should match the first part of the serial number on the inside of the printer door.

    This report must be run on the printer after the continuous job. This can be accomplished by ftping the report, available on the neuralog website or on the printer driver CD that shipped with your printer. It can also be accessed through a bookmark stored on the printer. To access this report, select Bookmarks from your printer operator panel and select the Calibration Report bookmark.

    4.12 Printing to Minimize Toner Usage The NeuraLabel 500e has 5 toner darkness settings with a default value of 4. This value has found to produce the highest quality prints. A value of 5 is usually not needed.

This setting tells the printer the image is a continuous print image but the pages will be separated by gaps. Cut between copies is normally UNchecked for continuous label printing. This is necessary to allow batch/copy printing of a single label.
  • Page 80 Image Size Adjustment is used in case the mark printed on the continuous label media does not meet Neuralog and Industry standards. This could occur if the marks were not the correct distance apart. This rarely happens, but if it does this value can allow printing with that media.

    Maintenance will be included for the first year. To update your printer firmware:  Select Settings->Update Firmware from the printer web interface.  Select the Neuralog supplied printer firmware update file. It will have a .fls extension.  Click Submit. The file will be downloaded to the printer and the printer will reboot when complete.

    7.5 Changing an Image Transfer Unit The NeuraLabel 500e Image Transfer Unit (ITU) or ITU Belt is rated for 200,000 pages. The NeuraLabel 500e ITU status can be monitored on the printer’s web page or directly on the printer operator panel. This status will indicate when the ITU’s lifespan is low and eventually has ended.

    Lexmark are either reused or demanufactured for recycling. Boxes used to return the cartridges are also recycled. All NeuraLabel 500e cartridges come with return labels included with free shipping in the package. To return Lexmark cartridges for reuse or recycling, follow the instructions that came with your printer or cartridge and use the pre-paid shipping label.

    If the print does not come out correctly, you will need to resend the print job to your NeuraLabel 500e since it does not remain on the printer. In the case of short paper (media running out during a print), for example, the job must be resubmitted. However in some instances the print will be reprinted or restarted once the problem is alleviated.

There is a gray trigger right above where the media enters the printer. This trigger controls a wheel that holds the media in place as it moves.

If the continuous form media does get caught inside the fuser, a message will appear in the operator panel. The media is removed as follows.     8.4 Blank pages at end of print NeuraLabel 500e includes 2-4 blank forms at the end of each print as part of its normal printing process, depending on the media size. These pages are a necessary part of producing quality prints.

    Open the printer door and remove the cartridge. The error will identify which cartridge to remove. Reseat the cartridge. See the Setup instructions that came with your printer if you need help. Contact Neuralog Support if the problem persists.

    8.7 Stacker Problems 8.7.1 Media is not folding Continuous form label stacking has proven to be reliable for the NeuraLabel 500e for letter and legal size labels. Larger size media will fold depending on the stiffness of the label material. If the labels are not folding, there is likely a misconfiguration.
