3.3.7 Feeding the tape

All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com
A top reflective sensor is standard on all AVERY DENNISON SNAP 500
printers. This sensor will detect a black sense mark on the top surface of
a white tape, and is mounted in the top right-hand post that holds the
web guide. It is fixed in the center of the tape and cannot be moved.
A bottom reflective sensor is an option. It is the same as the top reflective
sensor, except it will detect a black sense mark printed on the bottom of
the tape. When installed, it is mounted in a post beneath the right-hand
post that holds the web guide. It is also fixed in the center of the tape
and cannot be moved.
A contrast sensor is also an option. This sensor will detect a colored
sense mark on the top surface of a colored tape. When installed, it is
mounted on the top left-hand post that holds the web guide. It is
movable across the web, so that the sense mark does not have to be
centered on the tape. Refer to Appendix 7 for instructions on teaching
the sensor.

3.3.6.1 Selecting the Sensor

The top and bottom reflective sensors can be selected in one of two ways. First,
the sensor type can be selected as part of the format (see the PCMate Platinum
manual or the PCL manual for details).
The sensor type that is selected in the format can be overridden using the Virtual
Control Panel (see section 8.0) or the Remote Front Panel (see section 7.0).
The printer does not know if the optional bottom reflective
or contrast sensors are installed. If one of these sensors
is selected but not installed, the printer will not operate
properly.

3.3.6.2 Aligning the Tape to the Sensor

In order to work properly, the tape must be aligned to the sensor before starting
to print. To do this, close one or both print-head rollers (depending on whether
the label is single- or double-sided) and use the Auxiliary Feed knob until the
sense mark is just to the left of the sensor. Then rotate the rewind ink arbors to
take up any slack and press the Start Button.
This alignment must be done anytime the printer would
normally create a leader. This will happen after most
errors. Do not align the tape after a normal stop or a
stacker full.
To feed the tape, press and hold the Start button. After a short delay, the printer
will feed tape though the printer. To stop the feed, release the Start button.
