B.3.2 Wind Tracker – Example Programs
B-4
When connecting the Wind Monitor to both the Wind Tracker and a datalogger,
first connect the Wind Monitor to the Tracker as shown in Figure B-3, above.
Normally you can use single-ended inputs on the datalogger, providing that the
Wind Tracker is powered from a separate supply and there are no ground loop
problems in your system. The connections from the Wind Tracker to the
datalogger are shown in Figure B-4, below.

Ended Inputs
If you suspect there may be ground loop problems you should use differential
inputs to the datalogger, as shown in Figure B-5, below. This method is also
advisable if the Wind Tracker is powered from the same supply as the datalogger.

Inputs
If there are not enough free differential channels on the datalogger, and the Wind
Tracker has to share the datalogger power supply, single-ended measurements can
be made by connecting the REF connection to G (powered ground) on the
datalogger. However, small errors may occur on the readings – especially if the
cable run between the datalogger and the Wind Tracker is long (more than a few
tens of metres).
The voltage outputs on the Campbell Scientific version of the Wind Tracker are
scaled to 0-540° for 0-2.5V output for wind direction. The wind speed calibration
depends on the wind speed measurement units set via the front panel switches.
The examples programs assume that metres per second are set, which scales
0-50 m/s to 2.5V.
