The usage of multiple drives improves the rebuild process, which is up to 10 times faster than
traditional RAID. This speed is even more important when you use large drives.
The conversion from traditional RAID to distributed RAID is possible by using volume
mirroring or volume migration. Mixing traditional RAID and distributed RAID in the same
storage pool is also possible.
Example
The same number of disks can be configured by using traditional or distributed RAID. In our
example, we use 6 disk drives and assign those disks as RAID 6 to a single pool.
Figure 4-52 shows the setup for a traditional RAID 6 environment. The pool consists of one
MDisk, with 5 disk drives. The spare drive is not listed in this summary.
