Maintenance Manual

2. General information on maintenance and cleaning

Bill validators, or acceptors, scan currency using optical and magnetic sensors. Upon
validation, different bill properties are compared to internal reference values. If the item is
accepted, it is retained by the machine and gets placed into the cash box. If the acceptor
detects the bill as counterfeit, the piece of currency is rejected by the validator.
One has to keep in mind, that the acceptor performs best when its components are clean
and undamaged. Any dirt or damages can potentially reduce the acceptance rate of the
validator.
Generally, the intervals at which the acceptor needs to be cleaned at, depend on different
factors. These include, for example, the direct environment surrounding the validator, its
application area, and its degree of utilization.
Machines that are placed in dusty areas, or smoking areas, should therefore be cleaned
relatively often.
There is no general rule as too how many times the acceptor should be cleaned, as it
depends on the surroundings of the acceptor.
