Muting the Melody of an Internal Song or Music Files for a Sing-along (Melody Mute)

The "Melody Mute" function lets you temporarily mute the melody from the playback of
an internal song or of music files. Let's try singing the melody while you listen to the song.
NOTE
Prepare to play back the desired song.
1.
If you want to play back SMF music files from a CD-ROM or USB memory, insert the CD-ROM into
the CD drive (p. 38) or connect your USB memory to external memory connector (p. 104).
2.
Select the song you want to sing (p. 35, p. 38, p. 42, p. 46).
3.
Press the [MUTE/CENTER CANCEL] button so it's lit.
The Melody Mute function is turned on.
While the song plays, you can press the [MUTE/CENTER CANCEL] button to mute the melody.
4.
Press the [PLAY/STOP] button to play back the song.
When the song plays, the sound of the melody will be temporarily muted.
Sing the melody while you listen to the song.
NOTE
5.
Press the [PLAY/STOP] button to stop the song.
To Cancel the Melody Mute Function
1.
Press the [MUTE/CENTER CANCEL] button so its light is turned off.
The Melody Mute function is turned off.
When you play back the song, the melody will return to its original volume.

There's also a "Melody Guide function" (p. 61), which decreases the melody to a lower
(but still audible) level. This provides a convenient way for you to learn the melody.
The Melody Mute function won't work with a music CD.

The melody channel will depend on the song. If the melody is not muted when you
press the MELODY [MUTE/CENTER CANCEL] button, change the melody channel
setting. → "Changing the Melody Channel (Melody Channel)" (p. 115)
