SLIP Connection
You can connect a dial-up modem to the DCE port on the SNMP Management Module in order to
manage the 9135 through SNMP.
4.1

Configuring the 9135 for SLIP

Connect a DCE to DTE serial modem cable between the 9135 and the PC or terminal, then follow
these steps:
1. Start a HyperTerminal session and access the Main Menu screen. See Chapter 3.
2. At the Main Menu, type 1, System, and press <Enter>.
3. At the System menu, type 3, SLIP Port Settings.
4. At the Slip Port Settings menu, set these values; see Figure 11:
Interface: modem
Init Modem At Startup: Yes
Modem Init String: ats0 = 1
Password Enable: no
SLIP Password: (only if password is enabled)
SLIP IP Address: (for 9135)
SLIP Subnet Mask: (for 9135)
SLIP Port Setup: 9600, N, 8, 1
The 9135 is ready for management by SLIP connection.
4.2

Setting up the SLIP Connection on the PC

Install the modem, then follow these steps to set up the SLIP connection:
1. Check the modem setup on the PC. Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel, and double
click the modem icon.
2. In the modem properties window, confirm that the is set for the correct port.
3. Click Properties, then on the General tab, confirm that the modem is set to the maximum speed,
57600 baud, then click OK. For details, see the documentation for the modem.
4. Click Dialing Properties, then set the dialing properties for your location, including the area and
country codes, then click OK and return to the Windows desktop.
5. On the desktop, double-click My Computer, then double-click Dial-Up Networking, and in the
Dial-Up Networking window, click New.
