Steam sterilization (autoclaving) of accessories

ULTRASONIC BRONCHOFIBERVIDEOSCOPE BF-UC180F
Chapter 6 Compatible Reprocessing Methods and Chemical Agents
The accessories listed as compatible with steam sterilization (autoclaving) in
Table 6.1 on page 76 can be sterilized by steam within the parameters given in
Table 6.4. When steam sterilizing, follow the cleaning, disinfection, and
sterilization protocols of your hospital and the sterilization equipment
manufacturer's instructions. Prior to steam sterilization (autoclaving) of
accessories, meticulous manual cleaning followed by at least five minutes of
ultrasonic cleaning at 38 – 47 kHz is required.
Use biological indicators as recommended by your hospital's
policy and follow the manufacturer's instructions and all
national and local hospital guidelines and policies.
Effective sterilization will not be possible if items are packed
tightly together in the autoclave; always pack items loosely.
Inspect each instrument package for openings, tears, or
other damage. If an instrument package is opened or
damaged, seal the components in a new package and
sterilize again.
Allow the packages to dry within the autoclave, using the
autoclave's drying cycle (if available) or by opening the door
of the autoclave and allowing the packages to air-dry.
Handling a wet package can compromise its sterility.
Do not steam sterilize the endoscope. Steam sterilization
(autoclaving) will severely damage the endoscope.
Exceeding recommended parameters may cause equipment
damage.
