Setting Failover and Recovery

While both an Ethernet and a USB modem connection might be available, only one
connection at a time can be used to establish a WAN link. Whenever one WAN
connection fails, the Cisco RV215W attempts to bring up another connection on
another interface. This feature is called Failover. When the primary WAN
connection is restored, it reverts the that path and drops the backup connection.
This feature is called Recovery.
To display the Failover & Recovery window, click Interface Setup > Failover &
Recovery.
Click Failover to 3G WAN Enabled to enable the link to failover from the Ethernet
link to the 3G link. When enabled, the device sets the Ethernet interface to the
highest priority and uses the 3G connction as a backup.
Click Recovery back to Ethernet WAN Enabled to enable the link to return to the
Ethernet link, dropping the 3G link. The WAN > Mobile Network Connect Mode
must be set to Auto to use Ethernet WAN connection recovery.
If the Ethernet WAN connection fails, the device attempts to bring up the 3G
mobile network WAN connection on the USB interface. When the Ethernet WAN
connection recovers, the device reverts to using the Ethernet WAN link instead of
the 3G interface.
Enter a value in the Failover Check Interval field to detect the physical connection
or presence of traffic on the mobile network 3G link. If the link is idle, the device
attempts to ping a destination at the interval. If there is no reply to the ping packet,
the device assumes the link is down and attempts to fail over to the Ethernet WAN
interface.
Enter a frequency in seconds that in the Recovery Check Interval field attempts to
detect the physical connection or presence of traffic on the Ethernet WAN link. If
the link is idle, the device attempts to ping a destination at the interval. If there is a
reply to the ping packet, the device assumes the link is up and attempts to disable
the 3G link and enable the Ethernet WAN link.
Chose to Switch back to Ethernet immediately when Ethernet is available or set a
time to Switch back to Ethernet in a specific time range. If you choose a specific
time range, set the start and end times.
Choose the Failover Validation Site on which to perform failover validation. Use the
next hop gateway (by default the device pings the Network Time Protocol (NTP)
servers) or chose a custom site and enter the IPv4 address for that site.
Click Save to save your settings.
