Chapter 4. Completing the installation

This chapter contains information about registering your computer, recording
important information in case of emergency, and preparing emergency diskettes.
Registering your computer
Registering your computer helps IBM provide better service to you. When IBM
receives your registration information, it is placed into a central technical support
database. If you need technical assistance, the technical support representative will
have information about your computer. In addition, comments about your computer
are reviewed by a team dedicated to customer satisfaction and are taken into
consideration in making improvements to IBM computers. To register your
computer, use one of the following methods:
v Register through Access IBM. In Access IBM, click How do I.... Click
v Register your computer at http://www.ibm.com/pc/register/ on the World Wide
Recording important numbers
Locate the serial, model, and type numbers. Record this information in the following
table. You will need these numbers when communicating with IBM about your
computer.
Creating an emergency repair diskette
At your earliest opportunity, create a recovery-repair diskette and an IBM Enhanced
Diagnostics diskette, and store them in a safe place. Use the following instructions
to create a recovery-repair diskette. See the User's Guide on the IBM IntelliStation
Documentation CD for information about how to create an IBM Enhanced
Diagnostics diskette.
In the unlikely event that your desktop becomes unusable, the recovery-repair
diskette will enable you to access the Product Recovery program. Additional
information about the diskette is in Access IBM. For more information about using
this diskette, see the User's Guide on the IBM IntelliStation Documentation CD.
