5.6.5 Seal replacement outgoing shaft

1. Remove the wheels. Do not lose the key that sits
between the wheel, the hub and the shaft.
2. Clean the outgoing shaft and the area around the
seal from all dirt and rust.
3. Remove the circlip.
4. Insert a screwdriver between the seal and the
shaft and pry off the seal from the shaft housing
with a twisting motion.

5. Wrap insulation tape around the outgoing shaft
from the beginning of the key groove and
outwards until the threads of the circlip are
covered with tape. This is done to protect the new
seal from damage.
6. Lubricate the shaft and the inside of the new seal
with lubricant so that the seal slips on smoothly.
NOTE: Make sure that the metal spring strength-
ener of the seal is locacted on the side of the
seal facing the transmission before the seal is
attached.
Place the seal on the shaft with the metal spring
facing inwards, and press it in carefulley. Use the thin
end of a 1/4" extender to carefully tap the seal down
until it is seated in the bottom of the shaft housing.
Tap only on the steel casing of the seal. Move the
extender in a circle around the seal so that it is
pressed down evenly all around and it is tight against
the shaft.
