2.1 IP Parameter Basics

2.1.1 IP address (version 4)

The IP addresses consist of 4 bytes. These 4 bytes are written in decimal no-
tation, separated by a decimal point.
Since 1992, five classes of IP address have been defined in the RFC 1340.

The network address is the fixed part of the IP address. The worldwide lead-
ing regulatory board for assigning network addresses is the IANA (Internet
Assigned Numbers Authority). If you require an IP address block, contact
your Internet service provider. Internet service providers should contact their
local higher-level organization:

ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers) - Americas and Sub-Sa-
hara Africa
LACNIC (Regional Latin-American and Caribbean IP Address Registry) –
