Thank you for your purchase of the Contax AK
This camera incorporates an automatic back focusing
(ABR system which enables auto focusing with
conventional Carl Zeiss lenses for Gonta( sLR cameras.
This autofocus sLR is also a combined auto/manual
focusing camera. so you can focus the lens manually by
using the distance ring of the lens.
In addition, it offers many other advanced features as
follows. Before using the camera, please read this
instruction manual carefully through to use it conecily.
O mis is a multi-mode sLR camera which provides various
exposure control functions such as aperture-priority auto
exposure, shutter-speed-priority auto exposure,' and
programmed auto exposure.
@ when taking pictures on manual focusing or taking macro
pictures, you can check the sharpness of your picture on the
focus display.
@ witn the "custom functions", it allows you to set the camera's
operating conditions suited to your own use.
@ tn combination with our coNTAX TIA flash with automatic
flash setting feature, the film speed and apefture value which
you have set on the camera will also be set automatically to the
flash unit.
@ Equipped with a Contax Data Back D-8 (optional accessory),
the camera can record exposure data collectively on the first
two frames (or on one frame) of the film or dates and exposure
data between the frames. Interval shooting is also possible.
This manual uses a multi-mode Planar T. s)mm Fl.4 (MM) tens
equipped on the camera for explaining its operating procedures.
However, you can a/so use it in the same way as described in this
manual when it is equipped with other Multiple-mode Cart Zeiss
i nterc h an geab le /enses.

Diese Spiegelreflexkamera ist m it einem Fi lmebenen-Autofokus
(Automatic Back Focusing = ABD ausgestattet. Dieses
neuadi ge Autofokus-System erlau bt die automatische
Fokussierung mit den normalen, vorhandenen carr Zeiss-
objektiven frir Gontax sLRs. Die contax AX eignet sich frir
automatische wie manuelle Fokussierung gleichermaBen. Sie
kdnnen die Entfemung weiterhin auch mit dem Fokussiening
des Objektivs einstellen.
Daniber hinaus bietet die Gontax AX modemste Kameratechnik
in allen Bereichen. Bitte lesen sie vor dem Gebrauch der
Kamera diese Bedienungsanleitung sorgrfdltig durch, um die
vielen Moglichkeiten optimal zu nutzen.
C oie Mehrfach-Belichtungsautomatik dieser spiegelreflex-
kamera bietet lhnen universelle Mdglichkeiten zur
Belichtungssteuerung wie Programm-, Blenden- und
Zeitautomatik.

k6nnen sie wahlweise alle Belichtungsdaten gemeinsam auf
die ersten zwei (oder nur das erste) Negativ/Dia oder Datum
und Belichtungsdaten zwischen die Aufnahmen auf den
Filmstrich einbelichten. Eine Intervall-Aufnahmefunktion ist
ebenfalls vorgesehen.
